Miss Laura Joyce Richardson, 19 years of age, who had been staying with Mr. R. Green, a basketmaker, of Waianakarua, for the past four years was accidentally drowned in a mill dam near the Phoenix Mill at Waianakarua yesterday afternoon, reports a .Dunedin Press Association telegram.

Bundle, S.M., evidence was commenced in a case in which a youth aged: 16 years was charged with the attempted murder of Isabel Lindsay Henderson at Tapui, North Otago, on August IL The Magistrate, gave his consent for the publication of the proceedings, but prohibited, the of the name or particulars likely to lead to the identification of the accused. Detective F. M. Thomas stated that on August 9 Archibald Henderson went to Christchurch: Mrs. Henderson, her daughter, and Mrs.- Mclnnes remained on the farm At.'Tappi; Evidence would be called that during the night of August Mi the accused secured a butcher’s knife, went to the house and inflicted a very serious wound on the throat and face of Mrs. Henderson. When interviewed on August 1-8 the accused admitted' halving committed the offence. The case will be continued to-morrow.—(P.A.)
