ROAD CYCLING.

SIXTEEN MILE EVENT LAST SATURDAY. The Masterton Road Cycling Club held one of . Its closing races last Saturday over a sixteen mile course to Taratahi and back. E, Eastwood and D. Deegan (both 4min.), making full usfe of their handicap rode splendid races and staged a thrilling duel for first place, the former winning by a wheel. Clarke (4min.), a Featherston boy, was .third, and considering it was his first race he' did well. C. Mooney (3min.) and Ken Barr (4min,) were the next men home, followed by Tom Sayers <lmin.), who gained fastest time. Dooling, his co-marker, retired owing to tyre trouble. Just after the turn at Taratahi, Minott, Barr and Ireland crashed heavily, but except for a few scratches no one was hurt. V. Williams retired near Waingawa while Len Sayers, owing to a log injury found the pace too fast. Osborne, the only scratch man to start, rode a good race and was beaten for fastest time by six seconds.
