ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY.

GATHERING ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

There was a record attendance at Saturday night's gathering of the St. Andrew's Society, and besides dancing, which continued till midnight, a concert programme of exceptional merit was greatly enjoyed. The concert opened with selections by the Pipe Band, which is showing marked improvement with each appearance, both in piping and: drumming. Air. H. Hall proved very popular and gave several new. items in his Scottish impersonations. Several numbers were rendered by Miss Jamieson's quartette —Misses Wellington and Jamieson and Messrs Tongs and Donald. This quartette was particularly pleasing with the item “A Hundred Pipers." 1 Tenor solos by Mr. V. Greer included 4 4 Mary of Argyle." A sword dance was contributed by Miss Ho Taylor. Sir James Barrie’s play 44 The Old Lady Shows Her Medals" was played by the Knox Dramatic Society with great success. It was announced that the society, in response to repeated requests, was putting on another gathering at Martinborough on October 10. An excellent programme was being arranged and a 'bus would leave from Masterton.

The next regular gathering of the Society will be on October 26 and will, as usual, take the form of Halloween celebrations, largely devoted to juvenile entertainment. For this occasion the ladies of the society have offered to provide the supper.
