RIOT IN THE PUNJAB
THREE KILLED & 47 INJURED. POLICE FORCED TO FIRE IN SELF-DEFENCE. OPPOSITION TO AGRARIAN REFORMS. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 10. “The Times” Simla correspondent states that three were killed and 47 wounded at Shengani, in the Punjab, when twenty policemen fired on a mob of a thousand demonstrating against agrarian reforms. The crowd, including armed-Gats, surrounded the police, who were forced io fire in self-defence. Troops have been sent from Delhi to reinforce the State police.—(“Times” Cable.)
