THE REGENT.

“CHU CHIN CHOW.” Combining spectacle with drama, romance, comedy and the never-to-be-for-gotten music of Frederic Norton, “Chu Chin Chow, ’ ’ which comes to the Regent Theatre to-day, when it will be shown at matinee and evening performances, provides glittering material to appeal to every taste, its pageantry enhanced by skilful handling and acting of classic style. In its settings, this magnificently produced GaumontBritish picture reaches great heights, those responsible for its vivid panoramas having excelled themselves. Grouping of large crowds, costumes of great beauty and dance ensembles of a most original order are among other features which have been combined into a great film. The production is an enlarged version of Oscar Asche’s famous musical play, which held the stage uninterruptedly for four years, before touring the world. The music of “Chu Chin Chow,” written by Frederic Norton, has won immortality and is ranged, in the popular mind, alongside the compositions of the late Sir Arthur Sullivan. The popularity of George Robey has, for almost a generation, been a feature of the variety stage and he is excellently cast as Ali Baba. In acting honours he is followed very closely by Fritz Kortner in a lusty portrayal of the brutal robber Hassan. The east also includes such notable artists as Anna May Wong, Malcolm McEachern, Laurence Hanray, Pearl Argyle the noted dancer and many others. Seats may be reserved at Perry’s, ’phone 2496.
