OBITUARY.
BOSS FLORENCE L JACKSON. The death occurred early yesterday morning, after a brief illness, of Mies Florence L. Jackson, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jackson, very old and respected Wairarapa settlers, who lived for many years in Masterton. The late Miss Jackson, whose death occurred at the residence of her nephew, Mr. Bennett, "Fern Glen,” was 56 years of age. She was born at Featherston and had resided all her life in the Wairarapa district. She is survived by two sisters, Mesdames C. H. Andrews (Wanganui) and C. C. Bennett (The Terrace, Lansdowne) and three brothers, Messrs Hugh (Masterton), Norman (Napier) and Keith (Bathurst, New South Wales). The sympathy of a large number of friends will be extend- J ed to the bereaved relatives. The funeral will take place to-morrow, leaving the residence of Mrs. Bennett, The .Terrace, Lansdowne, at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
MR. ARTHUB HOAR. The many friends of Mr. Arthur ; Hoar, of Masterton,' will regret to hear of his death, which occurred on Wednesday evening, after a somewhat extended illness. The late Mr. Hoar, who was 45 years of age, was born in Christchurch, and earne to Masterton with his parents about 35 years ago. He was associated with his father in the monumental business in Masterton, and carried on the business after his father’s death. He was an ardent church worker, being a valued member of the Methodist Church. Ho was a trustee of the church, and only recently resigned as cirenit steward owing to his illness. The late Mr. Hoar was specially interested in the Methodist Sunday School, and it was chiefly due , to his untiring and commonsense of- a forts that the classes rapidly expanded i and became such a strong part of the church work. In raising funds for various Methodist Church organisations, Mr. Hoar performed splendid service. He took a keen interest in sport, and was a particularly able player in the , pastimes in which he took part. In his I younger days he was a member of the Bed Star Football Club (of which hie father, the late Mr. T> G. Hoar, a former prominent Wellington and Canterbury footballer, was secretary and treasurer for many years), and rendered the clnb splendid service on the field of p<lay as full-back and three-quarter, and in a social sphere. For a long period of years he was associated with the now defunct Carlton Cricket Club, playing in the senior elevens along with his father and other members of the family. He was a brilliant batsman and a splendid bowler and fieldsman, and represented Wairarapa for many years. He was in later years a member of the United Cricket Club, and had filled the position of captain more than once. Mr. Hoar was held in high esteem for his attractive personal qualities, and his death will be deeply regretted by a -wide circle of friends, among whom he was very popular on account of his kindly nature and willingness to help those in distress. He leaves a widow (nee Miss Grace Melvin) and five young children, and also a mother and four brothers (Messrs Will, Frank, Newman and Walter Hoar), to whom deep sympathy will be extended in their bereavement. The funeral will take place at 2.30 p.m. today.
