RUGBY TRIAL.

HAWKE’S BAY DEFEAT BUSH.

HASTINGS, May 30.

In a preliminary to next week’s All Black trial, Hawke’s Bay to-day defeated Bush by 34 points to 16. At half-time the score favoured Hawke’s Bay by 24 points to six. Bay scored with surprising rapidity in the first half, when they had the assistance of a fairly strong breeze and frequently started off movements in their own 25 from the kick off, which ended with tries. Bush rallied towards the end of the spell and scored two unconverted tries. The story was different in the second half, when Bush, winning a good proportion of the scrums and lineouts kept the Bay enterprise in check and more often than not were on the attack. The scorers for Bay were: Apsey (3), Tremewan (2), Le Quesne, Hannigan, Donovan (tries) and Bradley (five conversions). For the Bush the scorers were Harvey, Mitehell, Harris, McSherrey (tries) and R. Mills (lone conversion). —(P.A.)
