DAVIS CUP TENNIS.
STEDMAN PLAYS GALLANTLY IN DEFEAT. LONDON, May 14. Though Australia had already won the Davis Cup tennis match against New Zealand at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, the singles were continued today. J. H. Crawford (Australia) met A- C. Stedman (New Zealand )and the match, which was interfered with by rain, resolved ‘itself into a real marathon. When play was finally abandoned Crawford was leading 4-3 in the third Set after having won the first two 14-12, 17-15. The court had been covered and was not affected by the morning’s rain, but rain commenced soon dfter play began.
