YEAR OF GOOD PROGRESS.
CARTERTON GOLF CLUB ANNUAL REPORT.
“The satisfactory progress which has been noticeable during previous years was well maintained during the year which has just closed, and the financial position of the club is sound and satisfactory/ 1 states the annual report of the Carterton Golf Club. “No major alterations or improvements to the links were carried out last season, but the efforts to ’improve playing conditions were continued/’ the report continues. “The work of top-dressing has been delayed, on account of the dry weather, but will be carried out as soon as conditions are satisfactory. There was a further increase in membership last season, the total now being 101. The indications are that there will be /a further small increase this year. The financial position of the club has been further improved, the credit balance having been increased by £46 10s 9d. This cannot be taken as an indication that a similar improvement will be experienced in this and future years. The amount expended in top-dressing for the greens was considerably less than the amounts expended during the two previous years, and substantially less than it will be this year and in future, providing the conditions are satisfactory and providing also, we can obtain suitable material. On the receipts side, subscriptions and entry fees showed a satisfactory increase of £l2 13s and for the first time since 1930, our revenue was added to as a result of the reviving of the combined tennis and golf dance. Thia dance was a most successful function and the thanks of the club are due to the joint secretaries, Mrs. Wells and Mr. I. Aplin, and the energetic committee responsible for the detail work in connection with the dance. The agreement with the Racing Club providing for the use of its property recently expired, and satisfactory arrangements have been made for a further term at an increased rental. The racing club has co-operated with your committee and has assisted to make playing conditions as satisfactory as possible. As usual, the championships created a great deal of interest and were keenly contested. The usual interclub matches were played by both the ladies’ and men’s teams and with both teams, the results were quite creditable. The ladies won 7, lost 2, and halved 1. The men won 5, lost 3, and halved 1. The Middle Run links were again available for the home matches. The granting of this privilege is of great assistance to the club. We have pleasure in again placing on record our real appreciation of Mr. and Mrs. Booth’s action in granting this privilege. I have pleasure in drawing attention to the excellent work which has been done by the various officials, both ladies and ifien. The club is to be congratulated on having an excellent team, backed up by a keen and energetic committee. We regret that Mr. Knutson has definitely decided not to accept nomination for the position of secretary this year. He has filled this position for three years and his energy tact, and the very keen interest he has taken in the affairs of the club have been very largely responsible for the smooth running of the club’s affairs. We appreciate very much the work he has done and realise that he has a special reason for wanting to be relieved of the job.’* The report is feigned by Mr. G. Brown, president.
