BETTER TURN
ABYSSINIAN FRONTIER DISPUTE. NEUTRAL ZONE AGREED UPON. OFFICIAL ITALIAN STATEMENT. RUGBY, March 5. The Italian Embassy informed the British Government yesterday that an agreement bad been concluded between the Italian and Abyssinian Governments for the creation of a neutral zone in the disputed Ual Ual-Wardair area and the Italian officer commanding the troops at Wardair had been instructed to co-operate with the Ethiopian commander in delimiting the zone. IMPROVED OUTLOOK. AFTER MONTHS OF TENSION. (Received Wednesday, 8.40 p.m.) LONDON, March 6. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent says that after three months tension the relations between Italy and Abyssinia have taken a turn for the better. The agreement in principle was reached at Addis Ababa, by which a neutral zone 3} miles wide will be demarked between Italian Somaliland and south-east Abyssinia. Italy has also agreed that nomad tribes may cross the zone with herds for the purpose of using the wells. The settlement should prevent troops of either side meeting and fighting but it is unlikely that the sending of the Italian troops already mobilised will be suspended, as the demarcation of the frontier has not yet been carried out and the question of compensation for the attacks is unsettled.
