GRAFT CHARGES
AMERICAN MINISTER REPLIES TO SENATOR. ALLEGATIONS SAID TO BE BASELESS. INVESTIGATION WELCOMED. (Received Tuesday, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 4. The Postmaster-General, Mr. James A. Farley issued a lengthy statement to-day branding Senator Long’s charges as "untrue, false, ridiculous and baseless.” He said he welcomed an investigation. Meanwhile, Senator Long has continued almost daily his Senate attacks on Mr. Farley and the Roosevelt Administration, which ho charged with attempting to “white wash” his charges of graft. (Senator Long alleged that the firm that secured a certain post office contract was under the control of Mr. Farley’s brother-in-law, that Mr. Farley himself held a financial interest in it and that the contract was awarded to the firm over several lower tenderers. The Senate carried a resolution specifically directing the Public Works Administration to supply all the records bearing on the matter.)
