FARMERS' UNION COMPETITION. CONDITIONS OF CONTEST. The Farmers* Union annual rifle shooting competition for the Colonial Ammunition Co’s. Shield will be held towards the end of this month or early in April. Wairarapa has held the Shield for several years but lost it two years ago to North Taranaki. Leet year the local union riflemen did not compete owing to service conditions being applied to the competition. _lt is a deeply controversial subject whether service or marksman’a conditions should apply in future and with the object of arriving at a deflnite local decision on this point the Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union (Mr. J. Watson) has invited leading union riflemen to meet in Greytown on Friday to discuss this matter and also to appoint a local delegate to a central committee meeting to be held in Wellington at an early date, when the whole position will be decided upon on a Dominion basis.
