Y.M.C.A. CARNIVAL.
MOVIE STAR CABARET TO-NIGHT. PLENTY OF ATTRACTIONS. Bright and novel entertainment is promised at the Movie Star Cabaret, which is to be held in the Municipal Hall to-night in the interests of the Y.M.CA. candidate, Miss Edith Ralph, in the Queen Carnival now being conducted in aid of the Y.M.CA. funds. The offer of station 2ZD to broadcast a description of the cabaret between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. has been accepted and Madame Carle has agreed to describe the frockings. Twelve cubicles have been constructed and these have been decorated by various business houses. There will also be an adequate number of other' tables to meet the considerable demand already shown. The floor committee, comprising Messrs Corskie, Burling, Nicol and Donald, has drawn up a programme to cater for all tastes. Prizes will be awarded for the best impersonations of movie stars, male or female. The cabaret is under the patronage of the Mayor, and Mayoress. FARMERS’ ACTIVITIES. MANY FUNCTIONS ARRANGED. Another successful produce shop day was held in the Perry .Street Depot, yesterday, with members of the Women’s Institute in charge. All tfie produce was sold and a further large batch of “gold” badges found a ready sale. Commencing next Wednesday a novelty competition for a valuable prize will be a special feature of the day, when Miss Nancy Morrison and her own youthful committee will be in charge. Dairy butter is eagerly en quired for and country supporters are asked to help to increase the supply which is at present unequal to the demand. Several private parties and a rabbit drive have been held and details of a comprehensive programme of district events for September are nearing completion. Miss Morrison will be hostess at a bridge party in Lansdowne next Tuesday, and on Wednesday the Women’s Division will hold a similar afternoon in the Savage Club Rooms. The ladies of Rangitumau are entering the field with a fancy dress bail for children and adults on September 4, and the Women’s Institute will follow with a special social and dance in Kaituna Hall on Saturday, September 15. BUSINESS CANDIDATE. SOCIAL & DANCE TO-NIGHT. A reminder is given of the card social and dance promoted by the business men’s committee, to be held in the Savage Club Booms to-night. Play will commence at 7.45 and daneing to excellent music after the supper adjournment from 10.30 until 1 a.m. Much interest is being taken in the hockey match to be played at Lansdowne on Saturday at 2.45 p.m. between Borthwick’s and the W.F.CA. Admission to the ground will be free, and the business men’s blue badges will be for sale.
AJ revival of the old English traditional trial for the Dunmow Flitch is to be presented in the near future. This old, interesting and amusing ceremony is centuries old) and has attracted many thousands of spectators. The Masterton .presentation will be the first one in New Zealand.
