AERIAL DEFENCE

UNITED STATES REVISING PLANS. RESULT OF MASSED FLIGHT TO ALASKA. NEW GIANT CRAFT PROPOSED. (Received Tuesday, 9.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 21. The successful massed flight of • ten United States army 'planes to Alaska will lead to important changes in American aerial defence plans. It was indicated on Tuesday, after the squadron landed here to complete ten thousand miles' flying that the findings of the armada will be compiled immediately and submitted to the Secretary of War, Mr. Dern, who assured Colonel H. H. Arnold, commander of the squadron, that he intended to make every effort to place the Army Air Corps in the front rank of world powers. “We have proved," said Mr. Dern, “that it is possible to take tactical units of the Air Corps to Alaska quickly and bring them back successfully. The results of the long expedition to the north, begun a month ago, will have an important bearing on the construction of much bigger bombers, capable of longer flights. Agreements have already been made for the secret development of these new giant craft." The flight was made via inland Canadian points and a return made down the British Columbia coast to Seattle, thence to Washington.
