COLD WEATHER.
MORE SNOW ON THE RANGES. Snow was again in evidence on the foothills of the Tararua Ranges yesterday, following on a change to the south in the early morning, while the main peaks are well coated.. It is stated that snow was also experienced on the Bimutaka Road, yesterday, but it soon disappeared from the highway. The conditions in Masterton and other parts of the Wairarapa were rather bleak, with intermittent showers of rain and sleet. The rivers are stated to be running fairly high but no flooding is reported. FALL IN CANTERBURY. WAIAU-KAIKOURA ROAD BLOCKED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 17. Snow fell over a great part of Canterbury this morning, but it was only light in the city and later rain fell. The inland route from Waiau to Kaikoura is again blocked owing to heavy snow on the Whale’s Baek, but routes elsewhere are clear. The weather is now clearing.—(P.A.) LARGE STOCK LOSS. INVERCABGILL, July 17. It is reported that during the recent heavy fall of snow in the Mossburn district from 3000 to 5000 sheep perished on Burwood Station, the property of Messrs W. E. and J. S.
