OBITUARY.

MB.. 0.. J. PERCY.

The death occurred at his residence, / ‘ Ngatakoko, ” Te Ore Ore, yesterday morning of Mr. O. J. Percy, a wellknown settler of the district, at the ,age of 69 years. The late Mr. Percy, who was the third son of the late Mr. 'and Mfrs. H. J. Pkrcy r was born at Petone. He came to the Te Ore Ore district with his parents at the age of five years,, and had resided there ever, since.. Mr. Percy carried on farming operations at Te Ore Ore and Bideford >with his brothers for a number of years, and later on his own account. He was a keen and capable agriculturist, and was particularly interested in the cropping side of farming. In the days When ploughing matches were a big feature in the Wairarapa, Mr. Percy was in demand as a judge at these competitions. He was an enthusiastic worker in the interests of various sports ’movements in the district. For many years he was closely connected with- the Masterton Bacing Club, Masterton A. and P. Association, and the Masterton Savage Club. In his younger days the late Mr. Percy was a noted footballer, having been one of the finest forwards ever seen in the Wairarapa. For years he played with the Red Star Club, and represented Wairarapa on many occasions on the football field. He played a very fine game, and was always noted for his sportsmanship. The late Mr. "Percy was the possessor of . many sterling qualities. His kindliness and unassuming character won for him the esteem and respect of a wide circle of friends, by whom he will be greatly inissed. The sympathy of friends throughout the Wairarapa will be extended to the family in their great loss. Mr. Percy was predeceased by his wife two years ago, and leaves a grown-up family; also two brothers and a sister.

The funeral will take place to-day, and will leave the residence, “Ngatakoko,” Te Ore Ore, at 3 pjn., ft; the Masterton Cemetery.
