FINALS AT EASTBOURNE. PERRY BEATS CRAWFORD. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. In the final of the hard-court tennis singles at Eastbourne, Perry defeated Crawford, 8/6, 7/5, 6/1. Other results were:— Doubles.—Final: Crawford and McGrath defeated Turnbull and Quist 3/6, 6/4, 6/2, 6/3. Women.’s Singles.— Final: Miss Round defeated Miss Scriven, 6/2, 2/6, 8/6. Women’s Doubles.—Final: Mrs. Godfree and Miss Noel defeated Mrs. Dearman and Miss Lyle, 5/7, 6/4, 6/3. Mixed Doubles.—Rsnal: Miki and Miss Round defeated Malfroy and Miss Stammers, 8/6, 6/8, 6/2. The courts were slow after heavy rain. Perry proved his superiority over Crawford, being surer all round and winning outright with his first volley nearly every time he approached the net. (Earlier play is reported on page 3.) HONOUR PAID TO SATOH. AN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE. (Received Sunday, 7.1'5 p.m.) TOKIO, May 5. A most impressive memorial service to Jiro Satoh was held at the Waseda University courts. His black-draped racquet and photograph were placed on the centre of an altar flanked with his personal belongings, prizes and other mementoes. Many purple, scarlet and white-robed priests chanted the most solemn Buddhist rites. Comrades addressed the gathering and Satoh.’a spirit in moving words of farewell.
