Cyril Bray, aged about 30, was gassed at the Feilding Gasworks on Saturday. His companion, James Lever, had a very narrow escape from a similar fate. Both men. were employed by Rabbidge and Co., Wellington, gaswerks engineers, and were making repairs at the Feilding works. They had opened the big valve from the gas holder and while Bray was leaning ovdr the valve, with Lever close by, they were overcome. They were alone in the room at the time and were later discovered by an employee named Eichler. Bray was then dead. Eichler pulled Lever outside and applied resuscitation methods with success. A doctor sent Lever to hospital. Mr. Bray resided at Wellington. He was not married.—(P.A.) At a meeting of representatives of the Masterton and Wairarapa A. and P. associations, it was decided to hold a smoke concert at the Tea Pavilion on the Carterton Showgrounds on Thursday, May 17, at 8 p.m. when the ehairman (Mr. David Jones) and other members of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board will be present and Mr. Jones will formally present the shield won by the Wairarapa district for the best' District Lamb Exhibit in the whole of the North Island—at both 1932 and 1933 competitions . It was felt that the fact that the Wairarapa district had won this competition for two years in succession was a very important event in the history of the Wairarapa and should be suitably celebrated. The members of Parliament for the Pahiatua, Masterton, and Wairarapa Districts will’be invited to attend together with the mayors of Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough. Farmers and business men throughout the district will it is hoped recognise the importance of the function by attending in strong force.
