DOUBLE CENTURY

BRADMAN GIVES CHANCELESS DISPLAY. NOTABLE PLAY IN OPENING MATCH. AUSTRALIANS IN GOOD POSITION. (Received This Day, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, May 3. Playing in the match against Worcester, Australia, in the first innings, at the luncheon adjournment, had lost seven wickets for 378, Bradman making 20*6 before he was dismissed. Bradman (112) and McCabe (19) carried on the Australians’ innings in warm, sultry weather. Jackson and Perks made the new ball Swing. There was a heavy atmosphere following light overnight rain. McCabe early mistimed-two balls from Perks, but, Bradman quickly got into his stride, beautifully glancing Jackson to fine leg. McCabe added only one when he failed to get hold of a fast outswinger from Perks and was easily caught at backward point. It was a poor stroke, quite unlike McCabe. Bromley early survived a confident appeal for a catch in wicket in the next over. Bradman showed particular fondness for Brook’s slows and occasionally indulged in a burst of hitting that lifted him. for two successive boundaries, then punishing Jackson, altogether adding 21 runs in five minutes. Pressmen struggled to find new adjectives to describe to-day’s innings which was chanceless. There were twenty-seven 4’s.

Additional scores for the first innings are:—McCabe, e Brook, b Perks, 20; Bradman, b Howarth, 206; Bromley, c Brook, b Howarth, 45; Oldfield, not out, 14; Grimmett, c JJrook. b Howart, 7; extras, 25. Tots' seven wickets. 378.
