ST. MATTHEW’S PARISH.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. GOOD PROGRESS RECORDED. The annual meeting of St. Matthew’s Parish was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, the Vicar, the Rev. E. J. Rich, presiding over a good attendance. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the Vicar said that the year just ended had been one of strenuous but very happy service. The progress that had been made was decidedly encouraging. Every organisation connected with the parish had increased its membership, and rendered faithful service. A very happy feeling of fellowship had characterised every activity, and the future was bright and full of hope. The people’s church warden, Mr. J. Ninnes, said the parish had experienced a splendid year. The financial results were encouraging, and everything pointed to a great response next Sunday in the Day of Giving to wipe out the accumulated debt. Attendances at the services had shown a remarkable increase during the year. He paid a special tribute to the work of the choir under Mr. William C. Mann, and the organist, Mr. F. J. Hunn. Mr. Ninnes then spoke appreciatively of the work of the Vicar and Mrs. Rich and of the Rev. E. McLevie. Mr. H. A. R. Dunderdale explained the balance sheet in detail, and the financial progress that had been made. Messrs C. Perry and T. T. Denbee also spoke expressing gratification at the progress that had been made. Officers were elected as follow:— Vicar’s warden, Mr. R. E. Maunsell; parishioners’ warden, Mr. J. Ninnes; vestrymen, Messrs G. Hyde, E. Hale, H. M. Peacock, W. A. Clarke, W. Penistone, E. J. Coleman, B. G. Russell, T. T. Denbee, P. W. Jackson and Dr. A. Hosking. Messrs T. T. Denbee and H. A. R. Dunderdale were subsequently reelected secretary and treasurer respectively. The retiring auditors, Messrs Gy W. Sellar and N. H. James were heartily thanked for their past services, so willingly given, and were re-elected. Sympathy was expressed with Mr. Sellar in his illness, together with the hope that ho would speedily be restored to health. A message of sympathy was sent also to Mrs. E. Hale in her illness. Appreciative reference was made to the services of the church’s faithful verger, Mr. G. F. Knapp. The serving of supper by the wives of vestrymen, brought a happy and enthusiastic meeting to a close.
