MANY MARRIAGES.
INCREASE DURING EASTER. WELLINGTON, April 5. There is no depression in the marriage market. In various centres of the Dominion, Wellington included, business for the Easter period, always a popular time for marriages, was brisk. Dunedin, Invercargill, and other places have reported a boom, and the Wellington figures are also up on those for the corresponding period of last year. During the Easter holidays it was quite common to hear falling from the lips of women in town: "Oh, there goes another wedding party.” And on the pavements and in the gutters outside churches and photographic studios confetti that had not gone down the bridegroom’s neck has lingered, often for a day or two, for Wellington zephyrs have been most moderate lyFor the period from March 26 to April 3 inclusive 56 marriage licences were issued at the office of the Registrar in Wellington. Of this total, 14 marriages were performed by the Registrar. At Easter time last year, taking a similar period of nine days, from April 10 to April 18, 42 marriage licences were issued, ten of the marriages beeing before the Registrar. In the marriages that took place this flaster youth predominated, marriage apparently still being a popular institution with the young. Of the U2 people represented by the 56 licences issued, 84 were under 30 years of age, and 28 were 31 years of age and over. The youngest person married was a girl of 17, and the oldest a man of 71— a reversal of the figures.—(P.A.)
