KIDNAPPER SENT TO GAOL FOR LIFE. ANOTHER KILLED BY OWN GANG. NO CONTRIBUTIONS TO DEFENCE FUND. (Received Wednesday, 5.5 p.m.) CHICAGO; March 13. Basil Banghart, a member of the Touhy gang, whose testimony was largely responsible for the conviction of Roger Touhy for factor kidnapping, was himself convicted on the same charge to-day and sentenced to 99 years’ imprisonment. Charles (“Ice Wagon”) Connors, another member of the gang, and for a long time a fugitive from justice on a charge of aiding in factor kidnapping, was murdered to-day by fellow gangsters, supposedly because lie refused to contribute his share of a recent bank robbery loot to the legal defence fund to fight kidnapping cases against Touhy, Banghart and others.
