LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL CAPTURED. MANY PROMINENT MEMBERS DEFEATED. PRESENT STATE OP PARTIES. (Received Friday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 9. Labour made substantial gains in the London County Council elections. Many prominent members were defeated, including Sir Cyril Cobb, Dame Beatrice Lyall and Captain Bertram Mills, all Liberals. Communists were defeated. The state of parties is:—Labour, 61; Municipal Reformers, 37. Gains and losses are: Labour; 29/0; Municipal Reformers, 0/25; Liberals, 0/4. Thirteen results are being declared to-day. The old council comprised 83 Municipal Reformers, 35 Labour members and six Liberals. This will be Labour’s first majority in the London County Council. A GREAT TRIUMPH. . COMMENT ON THE LABOUR' VICTORY. (Received This Day, 0.9 a.m.)' LONDON, March 9. “This is a grtsat triumph for London Labour,’’ declared Mr. Herbert Morrison. He added that Labour would exercise its power cleanly, but with determination and a sense of public responsibility. Mr. Jessel, one of the Municipal Reform leaders, declared that Labour’s triumph was largely due to the apathy of many electors who had not troubled to vote.
