WATERSIDE WORK.

NEW REGULATIONS ISSUED IN AUSTRALIA. IMPROVING' INDUSTRIAL CONDITIONS. (Received Thursday, 9.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 8. The Federal Ministry has issued new waterside regulations, operating on Friday, in an endeavour to ensure a fairer distribution of work and to give the industry an opportunity of selfgovernment. A committee may be created consisting of five, representing the Government employers, the Waterside Workers’ Federation and port li-cence-holders. The first committee will be set up in Melbourne. The hope is entertained that it will lay the foundation for a settlement of current difficulties due to rival unions, but the main objective is the decasualisation, within practicable limits, of wharf labour.
