Mr. and Mrs. R. T. St. Lawrence, of Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay, are on a visit to Masterton.
Mr. and Mrs. S. L. P. Free are on a visit to New Plymouth, where the former is attending the Rotary Conference.
The Botary Conference at New Plymouth yesterday unanimously elected Mr. J. M. A. Hott, of Wellington, the New Zealand District Governor for 1934-35.—(P.A.)
Mr. C. B. E. Kyngdon is ActingManager of the local branch of the Bank of Australasia during the absence of Mr. C. C. Ruby on annual holiday leave, which he is spending in the Lake Taupo region. Mr. T. B. Clark, who has been appointed Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade and is to take np that position on April 1, paid a visit to Masterton yesterday and met and conferred with the chairman of the Fire Board (Mr. W. Candy). The death occurred at the Wellington Hospital on Wednesday of Mr. Frederick Woodham, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. Woodham, formerly well known residents of Maa ter ton. The funeral wilt take place to-day, arriving at the Masterton Cemetery, whqje the interment will take place at 2.15 p.m.
The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday morning of Mr. James Dick, aged 79, managing director and founder of the Drapery Supply Association, known as the D.S.A. The late Mr. Dick, in partnership with Mr. McKechnie, founded the firm in 1890 and it has since become one of the leading drapery establishments in Dunedin. -(P-A.)
Mr. and Mrs. W. White, of Dixon Street, Masterton, who will leave shortly on a visit to England, were the guests at a flag bridge party organised by Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Nicol, and held at' their residence in Chapel Street, on Wednesday night. A most enjoyable time was spent, the bridge winners being Mrs. W. White, Miss Gladys Judd and Mr. W. R. Nicol. After supper, Mr. W. B. Nicol wished Mr. and Mrs. White a pleasant trip to the Old Land and a safe return. On behalf of those present he handed Mr. and Mrs. White tokens of esteem and goodwill. The guests of the evening were accorded musical honours. Mr. White suitably acknowledged the honour accorded Mrs. White and himself. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a most enjoyable evening.
