AMERICAN TARIFFS
PRESIDENT SEEKS REDUCTION RECIPROCAL AGREEMENTS. NEW DRIVE TO RECAPTURE LOST TRADE. (Received Thursday, 9.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 27. It was stated by Senator Robinson, Democrat, Senate majority leader, that President Roosevelt, after a conference with Cabinet and Congress leaders, expected to ask Congress immediately for powers to reduce American tariffs up to fifty per cent, in return for foreign trade concessions. The power to arrange reciprocal tariffs is the second phase of President Roosevelt’s new drive to recapture lost trade.
