GIRL GUIDES.

ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS. The Masterton Girl Guides held their annual swimming sports on Saturday in the High School baths. The swimming was of a very high standard and the events were very keenly contested. A cup, donated by the late Mrs. Welch, to be competed for annually between the two companies (Tararua and Weraiti) was won this year by the Weraiti Company, with 87 points. After the cup had been presented by the president, Mrs. Tomlinson, cheers were called for Mr. Tomlinson, who had very kindly allowed the use of the baths, and had also acted as official starter and judge; also for Miss Sumpter, who had assisted with the events. Afternoon tea, provided by Mrs. Tomlinson, brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close.

The following were the results:— 33 1-3 Yards.—Senior: Peggy Andrews 1, Patricia Thomas 2, Joan Dixon 3.

Long Plunge.—Junior: Mary Munro 1, Dora Hathaway 2, Marion Edwards

Diving.—Senior: Joan Dixon 1, Patricia Thomas 2.

Breaststroke.—Junior (heats): First heat: Marion Edwards 1, Joan Wylie 2, Norma Richards 3. Second heat: Dora Hathaway 1, Doris Williams 2, Rena Staines 3.

Long Plunge.—Senior: Joan Dixon and Pat. Thomas, equal, 1; Barbara Dawson 3.

Comic entry into water. —Constance Shearer 1, Joan Dixon and Nancy Judd, equal, 2.

Breaststroke.— Senior: Peggy Andrews 1, Pat. Thomas 2, Joan Dixon 04
