BATSMAN INJURED.
VICTIMS OF BODYLINE PLAY. INCIDENTS AT ADELAIDE. ADELAIDE, February 26. Two East Torrens batsmen were injured in tire district cricket competition semi-final between Torrens and Adelaide, when the fast bowler Tobin resorted to leg-theory. R. Nitschke, hit on the head, fell on his wicket and suffered a deep cut an inch long. He was taken to hospital. H. Nitschke was hit on the hand and the bone was broken, WICKET DAMAGED. SENSATION IN INDIAN MATCH. COLOMBO, February 25. Clark’s action in damaging the wicket in the M.C.C.-Ceylon and India match has caused a sensation. Valen-1 tine, the M.C.C. deputy captain, in apologising to the India and Ceylon captain, said that he could not understand why Clark acted so, and he had “ told him off ’ ’ emphatically. Val■entine demanded that Clark apologise, but this Clark refused to do. Marriott, who was batting with Clark, said: ”1 am ashamed. I have never seen it before. I was too astounded to call Clark to stop. I felt like returning to the pavilion without batting.” (The incident in point occurred in M.C.C.’s last partnership. Clark dug a hole in the pitch with his boot at the spot for a good length ball. He was pulled up by the umpire. Valentine apologised for Clark’s conduct).
