If that roll' number were retained to March 31, another teacher would be required. The roll number on March 1 last ■ year was 259. There were 13 full boarders, 5 weekly and 2 day boarders at the school hostel. The extension of the Education Department’s Correspondence School was now beginning to affect the attendance at the hostel. In view of the increased attendance, Mr. Tomlinson said, he had applied for- the services of a relieving teacher, but as yet had received no reply from the Departmgnt. The results of the University Entrance examination were satisfactory, 19 passing out of 33. The boys ’ swimming sports will be held on Monday, February 26 and the girls ’ swimming ejportswill be held' on Wednesday, February 28. Both gatherings wiH b® held in the school baths and will start at 2’ p.m. The girls inter-collegiate relayand diving- contests will be held on March 2.
The Acting-Principal’ of the Technical School (Mr. O. H. E. Yates) reported:—Roll numbers: Boys 108, girls 132, total, 242. Included in the total were 122 (boys 63, girls 59) new enrolments. The number of'new enrolments exceeds that of last year by 2 and is the largest enrolment of new pupils in the school on record'. The total' roll shows an increase of 34 p-upils as compared with the figures for the same time last year. The increase in the roll number was brought about by the fact that a larger number than usual of last year’s first and second year students had returned. The increase entitled the school to an additional full-time assistant and probably to an increase in the part-time staff. The school athletic sports would be held at the Park Oval on March 9 and the swimming sports about March 20.
