UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.

REUEF.

MASTERTON DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. ARRANGEMENT FALLS THROUGH Arrangements had 'been made for a Masterton. deputation- to interview the Minister of Employment (the Hon. A Hamilton) and members of the Unemployment Board in Wellington yesterday ait 11.45 a.m. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan), Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P., and Mr. H. Daley, representing unemployed . workers, went to Wellington, but owing to the Minister being called away to a Cabinet meeting the anticipated meeting did not take place. Mr Jordan had a lengthy interview with Mr. W. Bromley, of the Unemployment Board, asking him to explain the cut of from 20 to 25 per cent, lately made in the relief allocation to Masterton. Mr. Jordan states that! he failed completely to obtain any satisfactory explanation from Mr. Bromley and asked him. to forward something in writing which could be laid before the local unemployed. Mr. Jordan considers that the immediate question to be cleared up is purely oe of administration, and that there is nothing meantime with which to go to the Minister. The Mayor is making a final effort to obtain a clear statement from the Unemployment Board on the subject of allocations, and particularly an explanation of the board’s denial that a cut has been, made in the Masterton allocation.
