DISPOSAL OF TIMBER.
COMPLAINT BY PUBTjTC WORKS . ENGINEER. At yesterday's meeting off the Maeterton County Council a letter waa received from the Assistant Engineer, Public Works Departeaeat, stating that on a recent inspection of the Kereerea bridge he had noticed that the timber from the old bridge was still lying on the ground near the bridge. He suggested that arrangements should; be made' for its sale before more of the timber disappeared. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Armstrong: “Does he know some has diaappeared?” The Clerk (Mr. J. C. D. Maekley): *He says so. *** Mr H. Sladden, one of the county's engineers, said that the old timber wm of very littfe value. It was absurd, he added, to talk about an auction sale. Mr. Armstrong said the timber was of no saleable value, and would not pay cartage into the county yards. Councillor G. Moore suggested that the Department should be told that it could 'have the timber if it wanted it and was willing to come and collect it*
Mr. Sladden said that it was the duty of the Assistant Engineer to draw attention to such matters. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and the Clerk.
