"BEAUTY FOR SALE."

A problem play of modern life is unfolded in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture, "Beauty For Sale," which comes to the Regent Theatre to-mor-row, when it will be shown at matinee and evening performances. Letty Lawson, daughter of a proud Southern family, finds herself stranded in New York when her father dies. Carol, her landlady’s daughter, gets her a j’ob in a beauty parlour, over the objection of Carol’s brother, Bill, who offers marriage instead. In the beauty parlour, Letty sees life as it is lived in a modern city. There is Carol, sweetheart of millionaires, and Jane, the trustful admirer of Burt, the beauty proprietress’s adored son. Letty meets \6Sherwood, a lawyer, unhappily wed‘to a social climber. Mrs. Sherwood by chance is called out of town. Letiy and Sherwood see much of each other. They fall in love. In the meanwhile, /Bill is suspicious of Sherwood’s interest in Lotty. He pleads his own case. When Mrs. Sherwood returns Letty discovers the truth—all she could hope for would be to become a married man’s sweetheart. Jane has been insisting upon Burt marrying her. He promises, but before the wedding date comes, he escapes to Europe. Jane ends her life. Disillusioned, Letty turns to Bill. She doesn’t love him, but he offers honesty and safety. She decides to marry him at once. A dramatic coincidence brings Letty into the knowledge that Sherwood’s wife, having had a romantic interlude of her own, is planning a divorce.
