SOUTHWARD BOUND.
RESEARCH SHIP DISCOVERY’ 11. WELLINGTON, February 12. At 9.15 a.m. yesterday the Royal research ship Discovery II left Auckland for Port Chalmers. She will call there to pick up Dr. Potaka, of Nelson, who is taking the place of Dr. G. Shirey as medical officer to the Byrd Expedition, and to load a small quantity of urgently needed equipment for the expedition. Arriving at Port Chalmers early on Thursday morning, the Discovery II will remain only a few hours, and she will then proceed straight to the Antarctic, via the Antipodes Islands. The call at the Antipodes is in connection with the crew of the yacht WindWard, which disappeared some three years ago while making a trip to the Chatham Islands.
