August 39. > On Marsh 17 next his Grace Archbishop Redwood, 8.M., Catholic Archbishop of/Wiellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, will have completed 60 years as a bishop. Incidentally, he • is the oldest bishop in the Catholic Hierarchy-in the world. The event will be suitably commemorated by the tCatholies of the Dominion, and it is • expecteik that there will l be a very .large gathering of the- Hierarchy, Alergy, and laity from all over thejeountry and overseas. At a recent meeting of the parish priests of Wellington city and suburbs, his Grace*Archbishop OWtea, S.M.', announced'that the diamond jubilee celebrations would be held towards the end of February next, some short time prior to the actual anniversary of Archbishop’s consecration in 1874. the Right Rev. Monsignor Connolly .(Kilbirnie) had been appointed conyener a general mieeting of' Catholics of the city and suburbs which would shortly be held for the purpose of discussing arrangements and setting np* committees to control the various functions. It is anticipated' that the celebrations will follow much: the same lines as those of the goMen jubilee celebrations of his Grace in 1924, which included a monster- procession and the celebration of a Benediction service* from an open-air* altar in the grounds, of St. Patrick’s*College.—(P:A.)
