NAPIER BREAKWATER.

DIVERSION OF LOAN MONEY. PROPOSAL APPROVED. NAPIER, August 30. Advice has been received by the chairman of the Napier Harbour Board (Mr. T. M. Geddis) from the Rt. Hon. ■I. G. Coates that it is the intention of the government to approve of the recommendation of the Local Government Loans Board to grant the necessary power, under the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake Act, to enable the board to utilise £71,000 unexpended loan money for the purpose of erecting at the breakwater wharfage accommodation, for dredging, and for improving the protection. Included in the board’s application is the sum of £ll,OOO- for keeping the inner harbour open until such time as the more permanent facilities at the breakwater arc ready for use. An Order-in-Council will be issued to this effect. —(P-A.)
