PERSONAL.
The death occurred at Featherston on Saturday, of Mr. J. P. Ferguson, who had been a resident of the district for the past 40 years. The late Mr. Ferguson, who was 64 years of age, was born in Greytown, and for many years followed the trade of a coachbuilder. He had been in failing health for some time. The interment took place at Featherston yesterday afternoon of Mr. Walter Hodder, a very early settler of the district, who died on Saturday. The late Mr. Hodder was 76 years of age, and was predeceased by his wife six years ago. He had been in failing health for some months, and leaves a grown-up family. Mr. T. H. Hankin, B.V. Sc., M.RC.VjS. Government Veterinarian to the Department of Agriculture, Masterton, has returned from Wellington where he has been occupied during the past month in investigations in connection with the outbreak of swine fever. Mr. Hankin stated yesterday that the Department of Agriculture had made, through its officers, a thorough survey and inspection throughout affected areas, and he was pleased to be able to say that so far as could be seen at present, all suspected cases had been dealt with, and the outbreak held in check.
