MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY. CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED. Nominations of candidates for the Mayoralty, Masterton Borough Council, borough representatives on the Wairarapa Hospital Board and the Wairarapa Power Board and Wairarapa. district representatievs on the Wellington Harbour Board close at noon to-day. To date only one nomination has been made for the Mayoralty, that of the retiring Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, and it is not expected that he will be opposed. For the borough council four nominations are now in hand, Mr. C. H. Anderson, an ex-councillor having been nominated several days ago, while yesterday the nominations of Messrs H. M. Peacock, A. D. Low and J. R- Barr were received, the latter being a new candidate.

It now appears likely that a poll will be necessary for the election of three Masterton representatives on the Wairarapa Hospital Board as in addition to the three retiring members, who are said to be seeking re-election, another candidate, Mrs Anne Fletcher, has been, nominated. Of the retiring members Mr. J. C. Ewington is the only one to be nominated so far. The two retiring members of the Wairarapa Power Board, representing the borough of Masterton, Messrs H. P. Hugo and R. J. King have both been renominated. Likewise the two Wairarapa district representatives on the Wellington Harbour Board, Messrs Hugh Morrison and T. R. Barrer. Yesterday the following nominations were made:— Mayoralty. Mr. T. Jordan, nominated by Messrs H. P. Hugo and E. M. Hodder. Borough Council. Mr. H. M. Peacock, nominated by Messrs T. Jordan and R. Page. Mr. A. D. Low, nominated by Messrs T. Jordan and R. Page. Mr. J. R. Barr, nominated by Dr. P, R. Cook and Mr. L. J. Taylor. Wairarapa Hospital Board. Mrs Anne Fletcher nominated by. Mrs Isa J. Harrison, Dr. Helen Cowie and Messrs H. J. O’Leary and John A. El Kerslake. Mr. J. C. Ewington, nominated by Messrs E. J. Brown and A. D. Low. Wairarapa Power Board. Mr. R. J. King, nominated, by Messrs W. H. (Saunders and A. D. Low. Mr. H. P. Hugo, nominated by Messrs James Allan and A. D. Low. Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. Hugh Morrison, nominated by Messrs E. Hale, A. POLL FOR POWER BOARD. Nominations closed yesterday for the Featherston mayoralty and council and other local body representatives. The only case in which a poll will be necessary is chat of the Wairarapa Power Beard, in which the retiring member, Mr. W. Benton is opposed by Mr. R. T. Saunders. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Card has been re-elected unopposed for a further term and those returned for the council are: Messrs W. Benton, O. R. Skipage, R. F. Watson, H. Buck, F. E. Dohnt, G. H. Wilton, H. W. Gundy (sitting members), I. B. Burt, F. A. Austin, Dr. G. S. Sharp. Dr. Sharp has also been re-elected unopposed as Featherston borough representative on the Wairarapa Hospital Board. NO POLL AT PAHIATUA. PAHIATUA, April 18. Mr. J. D. Wilson has been re-elected unopposed Mayor of Pahiatua, also borough representative on the Tararua Power Board. There are no contests for the council or the Hospital Board. -(P.A.) AUCKLAND NOMINATIONS. AUCKLAND, April 19. Mr. G. W. Hutchison, the sitting Mayor, and Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., have been nominated for the city Mayoralty. There are 43 candidates .for 21 seats on the City Council.— (P.A.) DUNEDIN MAYORALTY. FIVE CANDIDATES IN FIELD. DUNEDIN, April 18. Five candidates have been nominated for the City Mayoralty. They are Messrs R. S. Black, the present Mayor; F. W. Mitchell, Deputy-Mayor; the Rev. E. T. Cox, Mr. C. M. Moss, and M. O’Rorke, a Communist. There are twenty-six candidates, including full citizens’ and Labour tickets standing for the twelve seats on the City Council. The Labour Party is not contesting the Mayoralty.—(P.A.)
