AN AMICABLE SETTLEMENT REACHED. RESTORATION OF FORMER REGIME. TRIBUTE TO SIR J. SIMON. RUGBY, March 14. An agreement was reached yesterday at Geneva regarding the Island of Westerplatte. Under the agreement the Danzig police, which had taken over duties as Harbour Police, are to be withdrawn and the special Harbour Police restored. A detachment of 120 Polish troops sent to the island without previous notice is being withdrawn and the regime existing before February is restored. When the agreement came before the Count-J of the League of Nations at Geneva this morning tributes were paid to Sir John Simon for his capable handling of the dispute. Dr. Ziehm, President of the Danzig Senate, give assurances that hfi could guarantee the safety of Polish interests at Westerplatte, and the Polish Foreign Minister (M. Beck) gave assurances of a speedy withdrawal of Polish troops. Sir John Simon, who expressed satisfaction, said that the incident could be regarded as closed and taken off the agenda of the Council.—(British Official Wireless.) EMERGENCY POWERS.
