PERSONAL.

Mr. C. B. Norwood and Mr. Walter Norwood, Wellington, were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. E. Pither, Lansdowne, for the week-end.

Mr. Charles Morgan, of the Porirua Mental Hospital staff is at present visiting Masterton, and is staying with his sister, Miss Morgan, Devonshire House.

The engagement is announced of Lena Evelyn Woodley, second daughter Of Mr. and Mrs E. Woodley, Rodney Court, Upper Plain, to James Henry, only son of Mr. and Mrs W. H. Garrett, Braricepeth, Masterton.

The death occurred at the Grcytown Hospital on Monday, of David Allen second son of Mr. and Mrs A. J. Chapman, of Carterton, at the age of three years and nine months. The interment will take place at the Clareville Cemetery this afternoon, leaving the residence of Mr. 8. G. Swan at 1.30. At yesterday’s meeting of the Masterton branch of the Navy League the resignation of Mrs C. M. Strouts, on account of her impending departure from Masterton, was accepted with regret. Reference was made by several members to the excellent work Mrs Strouts had done in the interests of the league and to the very keen interest she had always taken in its various activities.

The death occurred at Martinborough yesterday of Mr. Cornelius Hibberd, one of the earliest residents of the district. The late Mr. Hibberd, who was 78 years of age, was very wellknown and highly respected and deep sympathy will be extended to his relatives iu their sad bereavement. He is survived by a wife and family of four daughters and two sons. The funeral will take place to-morrow, leaving the residence at 2.30 p.m. for the Old Cemetery.
