M.C.C. AT ADELAIDE

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MATCH DRAWN. BODYLINE TACTICS DENIED. TOBIN KNOCKED OUT. (Received Tuesday, 8.15 p.m.) ADELAIDE, March 14. England declared at eight wickets for 371, leaving South Australia 478 in arrears. Richardson and Nitschke began vigorously, scoring 59 in the first half-hour, 27 being scored off three overs. Nitschke, when 24, hit a crisp sixer. Bowes had five men on the leg side. Nitschke then became subdued and was out leg before to Mitchell. Tobin did some hard hitting, getting a sixer off Verity. Richardson gives a denial to an English report that South Australia employed bodyline tactics. He said Williams sent down a few bumpers but no leg trap was set. Only two fieldsmen were behind on the leg side of |he wicket. The field was no different from the ordinary Australian leg theory. Carefully, Tobin reached 32, and iu attempting to pull Voce deflected the ball to his head. The impact was of sufficient force to send the batsman prostrate with a nasty cut under the. eye. Ambulance men assisted Tobin off the field. The remainder of the batsmen concentrated on a draw. Williams played a delightful 23, showing great confidence and much promise for the future. Tobin, with his eye partly closed, pluckily resumed and went to 52, making crisp shots. Jardine bowled at 300. Grimmett cover drove him for four. Tobin also got two fours by beautiful strokes.
