The following events will be decided at the Masterton Amateur iSWimming and Life Saving Club’s weekly meeting, to be held at the Dixon Street Baths this evening: 50 yards men's, 50 yards ladies, 25 yards junior boys, dive.

Charles Edward Thomas, who was arrested in Masterton on Monday afternoon, appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. J. Caselberg, J J*., dn two charges of breaking, entering and theft, one in respect of an offence at Wellington, and the other in respect of an offence at Masterton. On the application of Sergeant T. H. Dyer, thq accused was remanded to appear in the Magistrate's Court this morning. At a preliminary meeting, held at Carterton last night, it was decided to form a Wairarapa Electricity Consumers' Association on similar lines to an Association operating in the Manawatu district. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s 6d and Mr. B. Hunter was appointed organiser. An executive was elected pro tern and another meeting will be held in a month's time when officers will be elected. Similar meetings, arranged by the organiser, will be held in other Wairarapa centres. A conference of representatives of local bodies convened by the Mayor of Christchurch was held yesterday to discuss concerted action for the relief of unemployment. The conference decided to recommend to local bodies that they should undertake the organisation of appeals for money and goods in their districts and also to recommend the Government that there should be a tax not less than 50 per cent on art unions proceeds, to go to the relief of distress. When these recommendations have been discussed by local bodies reports will be made to another conference to be held in three weeks time. —(P.A.) Grapes for sale.

The Tinui Sub-branch of the Plunket Society will hold a bazaar on the Tinui tennis courts to-morrow at 2 p.m. The annual general meeting of the Solway Golf Club will be held in the A. and P. Rooms, Perry Street, tomorrow evening at 7.30 o'clock.

The To Ore Ore Hockey Chib will hold a Shop Day in the shop next Central Garage, Queen Street, on Friday next. A fine selection of produce, cakes, etc., will he on sale. ..Ml"
