An enjoyable surprise party took place at the residence of Mr. James McKenzie, ”Weraiti, ” in honour of the coming of age of his eldest daughter, Dorothy. The evening was spent in dancing and games. Among those present were Mrs D. S. McKenzie, Misses K. Percy, R. Percy, D. McKenzie, M. O’Connor, N. Morris, J. Mcpenzie and Messrs R. Richards, K. Cameron, R. Smith, C. Chapman, J. McKenzie, R. Morris, J. Morris, F. Chin, I. Morris and J. Drew. The death of Mr. Walter Thomas Witherow, a retired sheep farmer of Hawke’s Bay, occurred suddenly at his residence in East Avenue, Mount Eden, on Wednesday. Since his retirement to Auckland 12 years ago, Mr. Witherow had become known to a wide circle of friends, particularly through his interest in racing. He is survived by Mrs Witherow and two sons and four daughters. The sons are Mr. L. T. Witherow, on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Masterton, and Mr. J. L. Witherow, who is farming in Taranaki.
