WAR DEBTS.

OFFER BY NEW ZEALAND TO RESUME PAYMENT. CABLEGRAM TO DOMINIONS SECRETARY. (Press Association.—Extraordinary.) WELLINGTON, December 18. An offer by the New Zealand. Government to reassume the liability for war debt payments to Great Britain, suspended under the Hoover moratorium, if a concession to New Zealand is granted on the assumption of a continued moratorium by the United States, is contained in a cablegram from the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) to the Secretary of State for the Dominions. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) in a statement, said the Hoover moratorium had now expired, and last week the British Government was obliged to make a heavy payment to the United States on account of its war debt. Although th® British Government had previously signified its willingness to continue the moratorium with respect to New Zealand’s obligations, the New Zealand Government considered that it should not accept without question this most generous offer. Mr. Forbes added that he was confident that New Zealanders, despite the difficulties confronting them, would wholeheartedly approve of the Government’s action.
