COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.
Festival nr may, 1933.
Since it was decided to resuscitate the Masterton Competitions Society, after it had been two year* in recess, the new executive has been very busy preparing the syllabus for the festival which will be held in the Opera House, next May, from 12th to the 20th. The class for adult choirs ha* been reinstated and it la hoped it will be supported. The test selected is Beethoven’s “Hallelujah Chorus” and one own selection. A quartette for children under 16 years ha* also been included and should be productive of some good work. All the other classes are as before and the whole syllabus is ready for the printer. The prizes have suffered a 25 per cent, cut and as a further help friends and supporters could donate small trophies, which, will be very gratefully accepted by the executive. If they were offered now, each could bo allocated to a particular class preferred and published in the syllabus. Now is the time' for all good friends to come to the aid of the Society. In our advertising columns are particulars of a poster competition in connection with the Festival, entries for which close on February 28. It ha* been divided into two classes—under 18 years and 18 years and over. The posters will be the property of the society till after the Festival in May. All the judges previously appointed have accepted their appointment* and the executive feels very confident of success for the Festival. It* value to the arts is well recognised and it only remains with the people of Masterton to givo it the support it deserve* in order to ensure the success of the society.
