FIRE AT RANGITUMAU.
PUBLIC HALL DESTROYED ON SATURDAY. ORIGIN OF OUTBREAK UNKNOWN The Rangitumau Public Hall was completely destroyed by fire late on Saturday night. When the fire was first noticed by passing motorists at about 10.30 o’clock, it had a strong hold, and fanned by a westerly wind, the whole building was quickly demolished. Nothing was saved and the origin of the outbreak is a complete mystery. An entertainment was held in the hall on Friday night, but everything v, as all right when the hall was locked up. Nothing suspicious was noticed on •Saturday and the hall was not used by any authorised person on Saturday night. The building, which was recently renovated at a cost of about £l5O, subscribed by the settlers of the district, was insured for £750 in the Farmers’ Union Insurance Co. The building was quickly reduced to ruins and the reflection of the burning hall could be seen for miles around.
