OTAGO WIN NEW ZEALAND CUP. WELLINGTON RUNNERS-UP. INVERCARGILL, August 27. The New Zealand basketball tournament was concluded to-day, the weather breaking shortly after mid-day and heavy rain setting in, with the result that the afternoon games had to be played indoors. Otago won the New Zealand Cup, going through the tournament unbeaten and Wellington, who were defeated only once, won the Annie Brown Cup for runners-up. Ashburton take the President's Shield for the team from minor associations winning most points. The match between the North and South Islands was won by North by 22 goals to 19, after an exciting contest. Results of to-day’s play were: Auckland beat Marlborough, 22/15; Southland beat Hawke's Bay, 15/3; Otago beat Canterbury, 13/12; Wellington beat Ashburton, 33/8; Otago beat Southland, 17/15; Wellington beat Auckland, 22/19; Hawke’s Bay beat South Canterbury, 15/14; Canterbury beat Marlborough, 26/19. The challenge match between Hawke's Bay, the lowest A grade team and Ashburton, the highest B grade team, resulted in a win for Hawke’s Bay by 26 goals to 16. Points for the New Zealano Cup were: Ota £°> 16; Wellington, 14; Canterbury, 16; Auckland, 10; Ashburton 6; Hawke’s Bay, 4; South Canterbury, 2; Marlborough, o.— (P.A.)
