The Masterton Accountant Students’ Society will hold the usual meeting to-morrow evening. Mr. A. D. It was reported on Saturday that the Foxton-Levin main highway was again safe for traffic. The water rapidly receded after the main drain floodgates were opened. Following are the Masterton vital statistics for June, the figures for the corresponding month last year being shown in parentheses: Births, 20 (24); deaths, 11 (14); marriages, 7 (3).
The vital statistics for Carterton for the month of June are: Births, 7; fleaths, 1; marriages, 2. For the halfyear the figures are: Births, 54; deaths 17; marriages, I’s.
At one o’clock yesterday morning, Edward Baxter, a shop manager of Rotorua, who had been attending a dance at Whakarekarewa, Rotorua, fell into a 'hot pool. He was severely scalded and died in hospital four hours later.—(P.A.) At a meeting of the stewards of the Masterton Racing Club on Friday night, presided over by Mr. J. lorns, a notice of motion was given by the committee that the members’ annual subscription be reduced from £2 to £l. The Carterton Trust and Agency Co., Ltd., elsewhere invite tenders for the lease of two properties owned by Mrs. A. M. Budd. The properties are 964 acres, with dwelling and farm buildings, and 374 acres with cottage and barn, both situated at Taumata Island, Waihakeke.
