Further communal rioting occurred in Bombay, where hundreds of enraged religionists fought a pitched battle in the street, using knives, sticks and stones. The police were compelled to fire, killing four and injuring many, while four wore killed and 120 injured in mob clashes and individual assaults. The total casualties since the riots broke out are 200 dead and 2300 in- ' jured.
