BASKETBALL.

WAIRARAPA REPS. SELECTED. SATURDAY’S trial match. COMPETITION RESULTS. Following on a match on Saturday in which Wairarapa Basketball Association senior representatives were pitted against Secondary representatives, the following representative team was selected: — Goal, Maude Bright (H.5.0.G.), Nell Cohen (H.5.0.G.), Phyllis Kilmister (Convent 0.G.); centre, Zelma Ackerman, captain (H.5.0.G.), Monica Jones (Stars), Lois Hosking (St. Matthew’s College); defence, Norma Welch (H.S.0.G.), Gertie Angove (Stars), Grace Musgrove (Convent 0.G.) In the Seniors v. Secondary match, Seniors won, 16/5. The game was not entirely satisfactory, as the wet ground and a ball very hard to hold prevented quick play. In the first five minutes, the Seniors seemed likely to run away with the game, but the Secondaries then recovered from their first nervousness and the contest became far more even. The Secondary centre played particularly well and were quite a match for the Seniors. Lois Hosking showed excellent form and will be an acquisition to the Wairarapa representative team. She was the only Secondary player promoted. The Senior defence was excellent, Grace Musgrove playing particularly well. Secondary were unlucky with their goal-throwing, the ball several times running round the Ting and then falling out. The Secondary defence, though creditable, was not quick enough for the Senior goal throwers. The combination of the Senior goal-throwers was first-class. Points were scored as follow: —Seniors: M. Bright, 6; Nell Cohen, 6; Phyllis Kilmister, 4. Secondary: Kalmia Fairchild, 3; Rose Percy, 1; Enid White, 1. Some of the Seniors were still too slow in parting with the ball and it is hoped, now that the Wairarapa representative team has been definitely chosen, that it will get a great deal more practice. Miss G. G. Matthews was referee. Results of other recent matches are as follow:— Senior A.—Convent Old Girls beat Greytown. 12/4; High School Old Girls beat Stars H., 32/3. Senior B.—High School O.G. beat Stars, 13/6; Elmdale beat Convent 0.G., 6/4. Secondary A.—St. Matthew’s College beat Solway College, 25/13. Secondary B.—High School B beat Technical School, 24/4; High School C beat St. Bride’s Convent, 11/4; Solway College beat St. Bride’s Convent, 38/8.
