Masterton.—Miss R. Robinson reported at 9 a.m. yesterday:— June 18: Barograph, 29.33; shade temperature, maximum 54.8, mini mum 45.8; terrestrial, 37.8; sunshine, 2 hours 18 minutes; rain, .3. June 19: Barograph, 29.33; shade temperature, maximum 55.2, minimum 40.6; terrestrial. 33.4; sunshine, 2 hours 8 minutes; rain, 5 points.
The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—An intense depression was centred to-day near the Chatham Islands and barometers are still low also over New Zealand. Another depression has been moving on to Tasmania to-day. Forecast: Winds, moderate to strong south-westerly to westerlies, of gale force in exposed positions. Weather mainly fair in eastern districts between East Cape and Oamaru; elsewhere changeable, with scattered showers, more especially in districts with a westerly aspect. Cool temperatures.
